Emerging Technologies Towards Agriculture, Food And Environment
For sustainable development globally the skilled human resource is a key element. Therefore, the capacity building should be major focus to harness the gains of emerging science and technologies. With the advent of emerging technologies, it is possible to give pace to the primary production of crops, post-harvest processing of crop produce, manufacturing technologies for developing value added products emanating from plants and animals. The science and technology applications for assessment and optimization of natural resources including land, rhizosphere, water, forest, biodiversity and environment. Therefore, know-how and guidance in using emerging technologies are valuable to effectively utilize human capital and natural resources. The use of natural resources through pragmatic and optimized technologies is a way forward to achieve the UN millennium goals for sustainable development globally. In Africa and Asia most people live in villages which are also primary centres of production for crops and animals, in such regions the gains of science and technology are far below than the expected due to lack of appropriate training and consequently lack of enterprises. The awareness of climatic change, appropriate use of natural and applied resources and national development policies is quite low which falls for concerted approach for holistic development.
Keeping these facts in view an International Seminar on "Harnessing Science and Technology Applications through Capacity Building and Economic Policies for Sustainable Development" was jointly organized by International Foundation for Sustainable Development in Asia and Africa (IFSDAA) and Afro-Asian Studies Promotion Association (AASF) and HAWK University of Applied Sciences & Arts -Gottingen, Germany in collaboration with Society for Sustainable Agriculture and Resource Management (SSARM) at Mahatma Gandhi House, Göttingen, Germany from September 13 – 15th, 2018.
The twenty-nine papers presented and intended to be presented are included in this book entitled "Emerging Technologies towards Agriculture, Food and Environment". For systematic reading these papers have been resolved into six sections namely: science and technology innovations for agripreneurs; crop improvement; soil and rhizosphere; agroforestry and horticulture; environmental sciences; technology and policy preceded by a strong vision paper.
