The volume has been design to explore the challenges surrounding land degradation, its origins and effects on the soil ecology. Additionally, we made every effort to learn about efficient soil restoration methods. The chapters go into great length about the effects of numerous anthropogenic activities, causes of soil deterioration and degradation with case studies, and ways to restore the agroecosystem and biodiversity etc.

In a nutshell, this volume discusses in detail the following issues

  • Various dimensions of land degradation, their causes and consequences
  • Land degradation pattern under changing climate scenario
  • Soil biodiversity, its importance in soil health and sustainable agroecosystem
  • Soil organic matter content and soil health
  • Problem soils and major restoration projects
  • Soil mining and its impacts
  • Case studies on impact of chemically contaminated soil and living systems
  • Bioremediation techniques for contaminated soil
  • AI system in sustainable agroecology
  • Mitigation and preparedness for the future

Let’s recall our duty that what we receive from our forefathers should pass to next generations and put hands together to maintain our environment so as to make our agriculture system more sustainable. This compilation is dedicated to farmers, brilliant minds behind agriculture and all those who are in this field.

Dr. Akshat Uniyal

Dr. Akshat Uniyal, Ph.D., NET has an avid interest in agro-ecosystem sustainability, microbial ecology, microbial decomposition, microbial succession, and soil nutrient bio-transformation related parameters. He has several publications in both national and international journals and has been awarded a scholarship for his study. He was given a young scientist award in 2021 for his achievements to the field of agricultural microbiology. Dr. Uniyal, currently working as a faculty of Agriculture Microbiology and has more than 14 years of teaching experience. He is a lifetime member of many research associations as well as an active member of several national and international academic organizations’ editorial review boards. In May 2021, Dr. Uniyal elected as a state coordinator of IAMBSS (Integrated Association of Medical Basic and Social Scientists), India.
