Biotechnology has become an essential scientific discipline at the intersection of discovery, innovation, and application, playing a crucial role in addressing modern challenges in health, agriculture, and the environment. Reflecting this dynamic field, Emerging Dimensions in Biotechnology: Research, Innovation, and Application is a two-volume edited book series that captures the breadth and interdisciplinary nature of contemporary biotechnology. The series consists of twenty-eight peer-reviewed chapters, systematically arranged into six thematic sections: Molecular, Cellular, and Computational Biology; Infectious Diseases and Diagnostics; Cancer Biology; Agricultural and Environmental Biotechnology; Nanobiotechnology and Biosensing Applications; and Industrial and Translational Biotechnology. Contributions from researchers at the Amity Institute of Biotechnology highlight integrative research that combines foundational biological concepts with clear translational and applied outcomes, all curated by expert section editors to ensure coherence and academic rigor.

Emerging Dimensions in Biotechnology: Research, Innovation, and Application, Volume II offers an in-depth look at recent advancements and applications in key areas of biotechnology. The volume is divided into three thematic sections. The first section, Agricultural and Environmental Biotechnology, explores topics such as the evolution of cloning techniques in plant biology for crop improvement, the effects of nanofertilizers on soil microbiome and nutrient cycling, the future potential of plant stem cells, molecular interactions between tomatoes and pathogens, and microbial as well as biotechnological strategies for remediating heavy metals and xenobiotic compounds.

The second section, Nano-Biotechnology and Biosensing Applications, highlights the use of optically active nanotools in plant photosynthesis research, development of plasmonic nanosensors for diabetes detection, and the role of nanoparticles in advancing precision agriculture. The final section, Industrial and Translational Biotechnology, covers a comprehensive review of biomass feedstocks and biofuel production pathways, production of mineral-enriched yeast biomass, the enhancement of membrane biocompatibility through biomolecule coatings, environmentally responsible biosafety management, strategies to promote bioentrepreneurship in India’s bioeconomy, and the impact of intellectual property reforms on innovation. Collectively, these chapters reflect the integration of innovative research with practical solutions, underscoring biotechnology’s expanding influence in agriculture, environmental management, healthcare, and industrial development.

Dr. Machiavelli Singh

Dr. Machiavelli Singh, Director, Directorate of Research and Publication (DRP); Research Coordinator, Amity University Haryana; Professor, Amity Institute of Biotechnology (AIB); and Visiting Faculty, Amity Medical School (AMS), has been serving Amity University Haryana (AUH) since 2012 with significant contributions to academic leadership, research advancement, and institutional innovation.
Dr. Singh obtained his Master’s (2001) and Doctoral (2010) degrees in Biotechnology as an alumnus of Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala. He began his research career as a UNDP Fellow under the ITSAP project at TIFAC-CORE (2001–2004). A certified alumnus of WIPO in IPR Management, the EyeTeach Program of Brien Holden Vision Institute (BHVI), Australia, and the WHO Competency-Based Learning Program (2020), he has actively contributed to translational research and innovation ecosystems.
His research interests span Microbial Biotechnology with emphasis on Molecular Markers and Diagnostics, Bioprocessing, AgroBio, and Intellectual Property. He has developed novel biostimulant formulations and published over 60 research papers, book chapters, and ten books, including Fundamentals of Bioentrepreneurship: Innovation in Biobusiness (Agrobios, 2025). His editorial journey began with Biotechnology – Progress and Prospects (Studium Press, 2015).
Dr. Singh has convened several national and international scientific events, including the “Contemporary Issues in Biotechnology” Conference (2014) and the 90th Annual Meeting of the Society of Biological Chemists (India) (2021). He received his first international travel grant from African Asian Studies Promotion (AASF) in 2018 and continues to coordinate Indo-German scientific collaborations through and International Foundation for Sustainable Development in Africa and Asia (IFSDAA), Germany. He also fosters MSME, MGIRI, and LSSSDC initiatives for youth skilling and startup incubation.
A life member of SBC (IISc) and SSARM (India), he serves as a reviewer for international journals in the domain of Microbial Biotechnology, including Ekin Journal and Annals of AgriBio-Research. His active collaborations across the EU, US, and Canada, along with advisory roles for NGIVD, NVK Diagnostics Research, MicroPath Labs, and Floritech Organo Industries, reflect his commitment to advancing biotechnology accessibility and global research partnerships.
