Crop Science: Theory And Practice
Crop Science – Theory and Practice is a “Working text book”. It is the result of continued efforts to provide students with textual material that emphasizes fundamental concepts underlying crop science and production.
In addition to updating and revision of chapters, also represents efforts to integrate basic concepts of sustainable agriculture and environmental awareness throughout the text. It is designed to embrace concerns and questions related to agriculture, horticulture, environment and plant protection of our natural resources rather than ignore them. The text purposefully emphasizes basic concepts illustrated with suitable crop examples. The text allows the teacher to enhance the students understanding and application regions using lecture, discussion or other instructional formats.
“Crop science – Theory and Practice” was written with the following objectives:
- To help students develop the fundamental vocabulary used in crop, soil and climate related sciences and industries.
- To emphasize the basic principles and relationships among crops and their environment and production.
- To help students learn and apply the broad sciences of Plant Anatomy, Taxonomy, Physiology, Soil, Climatology, Genetics, Entomology, Pathology, Post harvest Technology and Horticulture they are intrinsically involved in crop production.
- To develop a text book that is flexible for student learning and teachers use. The text is prepared in outline form to help students identify, follow and learn basic concepts.
- The text book can be used alone, as a lecture supplement for individual study or for remedial learning of basic crop science principles.
- The practical section of this text book can be used with either auto-tutorial or Conventionally taught laboratories.
Each exercise is designed to give the students the basic knowledge or expertise necessary to master a particular subject area of crop science. Each exercise can then be supplemented by the teacher with demonstrations, experiments or other hands-on material to complete the students instruction. In this manner, the practical manual can be used under a wide range of teaching methods and facilities in agricultural and horticultural sciences.
