Sustainable Development Through Tertiary Level Environmental Studies
ABOUT THE BOOK
Environment has become the central point of growing concern. Continuing problems of pollution, loss of forest, sold waste disposal, degradation of environment, issues like economic productivity and national security, global warming, the depletion of ozone layers and loss of biodiversity has made everyone aware of environmental issues. Against such backdrops, imperatives of 'Environmental Studies' remain undisputed and cannot be considered as marginal issue/concern. Activities like green bank, green press, eco-hubs, eco-policies, eco-farming and eco-harvesting are emerging in our country. But the most important thing is to inculcate environmental ethics into our future citizens' young mind. Environmental education is now being seen as an instrument and a process of inculcating ethics to bring about desirable changes in human behaviour. Against this backdrop, an exploration on compulsory Environmental Studies as first degree common course at campus based institutes of West Bengal was completed. This book is the final outcome of that exploratory/empirical research.
