Until recently, plant breeders have relied primarily on classical tools to develop new crop cultivars providing a raw plant-derived material for further processing.
With elapsing time plant breeding is becoming modernized and perceived as a multidisciplinary and coordinated process in which a large number of tools and elements of conventional breeding techniques, bioinformatics, molecular genetics, molecular biology, and genetic engineering are being utilized and integrated.
With the advent of biotechnology, breeders started to incorporate a rapidly DNA technology tools in their breeding work.
In recognition of the current state of methods and their application, this conference addresses both classical and biotechnological tools used for germplasm enhancement and plant breeding.
Economics, Called also green economics, of plant breeding and plant products is barely touched in this conference, thought it is huge in turnover terms of associated industries, employment and trade.
It is estimated that in EU-27 there are around 17 million farms with more than doubled number of workforce.
This book entitled "Biotechnology and Plant Breeding Perspectives based on presented  and also intended to be presented papers covers topics such as classical crop improvement with exploration of genetic resources, biotechnology in plant breeding, intellectual property protection and patenting of plant material, socio-economic and safety reasons or risks connected with acceptance or rejection of products made of plant GMO or with additions of GMO, concepts of participatory and decentralized breeding, infusing quality, resistance and tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses into plant genome and other issues discussed at the conference.
 

Dr. (Prof.) Behl RK

Prof. Rishi Kumar Behl formerly served as Professor of Plant Breeding and Associate Dean, College of Agriculture, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, and is now working as Dean, Faculty of Agricultural, Jagannath University, Bahadurgarh, Haryana. He obtained his B. Sc. (Agri) from Rajasthan University, Jaipur, M. Sc. (Agri,) and Ph. D. from Haryana Agriculture, University, Hisar, India, with distinguished academic carrier. He has been editor in chief of Annals of Biology for about three decades, Associate Editor of Annals of Agri Bio Research, Editorial Board Member of Archives of Agronomy and Soil Science (Germany), International Journal of Crop Breeding and Genetics (EKIN, Turkey), International Advisory Board Member of Tropics (Japan), Associate Editor, Cereal Research Communication (Hungary), Associate Editor, South Pacific Journal of Natural Science (Fiji), Sr. Editor, Journal of Basic Microbiology, (Germany), has about 220 publications in international and national journals and 35 edited books and manuals, has 33 years teaching and research experience in plant breeding, has been awarded Bharat Ratna C Subhramaniyam Award for Outstanding Teachers by Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, Honorary DAAD Advisor by German Academic Exchange Service, Bonn, Germany (2006-09), has been founder Secretary of Society for Sustainable Agriculture and Resource Management (SSARM), India; International Council for Sustainable Agriculture (ICSA) and International Foundation for Sustainable Development in Africa and Asia (IFSDAA), Germany. He participated in and organized several international conferences in India and abroad and has been associated with the development of plant material with specifically useful traits for stress tolerance and plant microbe interactions in wheat. Currently he is involved in steering research and development activities in the area of application of technology for sustainable development.
